About Guy

Just a little bit about myself. I was born and went to school in Ottawa eventually getting a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Carleton University and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Ottawa.

My father was in the Canadian Armed Forces so my family moved often and over the years I made many friends and lived in every province except Saskatchewan. I followed in my father's footsteps and joined the Canadian Armed Forces at a young age starting off as an Air Navigator searching for Russian submarines in the North Atlantic. I later transferred to the Military Engineering branch and served in various engineering and leadership roles across the country.  I retired from the Armed Forces in 1996 but continued to serve the public  in management roles within the public service until my second retirement in 2013.

In 2009, my spouse Laurie and I  chose to make Saint Andrews our forever home, because for us Saint Andrews was the right choice.  Laurie and I have made lifelong friends here, entertained visitors from across the country and even had friends decide to settle in our community. Whether it be the diversity of people from all over Canada and other countries that live here, the long time residents with their colourful stories, the wonder in the eyes of the thousands of tourists that flock to our town to enjoy its seaside charm, rich heritage and beautiful natural scenery ... Saint Andrews has been the perfect spot to call home.

Since moving to Saint Andrews, I have strived to make a positive difference in our community and make this town an even better place to live whether you are entering the retirement phase, looking to plant roots or raise a family.  I have played an active role in in making our town a better place by giving back to the community.

I served on Council for over 6 years, have been president of the local Kiwanis Club, Katy's Cove Incorporated and Vision Saint Andrews.  I have raised over $1,800,000 for the community, supervised a large part of the Van Horne Trail construction, overseen the building of washrooms at Katy's Cove, led the team resurrecting our community newspaper "The Courier".   During the dark days of COVID, I organized and coordinated the delivery of groceries and medicine to safeguard our community and protect those in need.  When our community was faced with a massive power outage, I went door to door with my generator to provide heat and power to refrigerators to help out neighbours in need.

One of the most important volunteer activities I have been involved in since 2013 is being part of the Canadian Red Cross Emergency Response Team, where I have been able to provide assistance to people in need.  This has opened my eyes to the many challenges we have in our community and given me insight into the real life problems faced by the most vulnerable in our society.  I have responded to house fires, floods and  wind storms when people need assistance.  I was at the WC O'Neill arena  during the Stein Lake fire and rendered assistance during the Christmas power outage  where 66 families were provided shelter.

Now I am moving on to the greatest challenge of all ... by offering to become Mayor of our spectacular town.  I think that with my education, experience and commitment to our community that I can lead Saint Andrews to the next level.  I believe Saint Andrews can be a centre of innovation in municipal management, a place where all voices count, sound decisions are made in the best interests of the community and absolute transparency that leads to responsible, accountable government for the people.

There is nothing we cannot accomplish together !
